JUSTICE AT LAST

Finally, the Honourable bench made up of Isaac Lenaola, Mumbi Ngugi, Hedwig Ong’undi, Hilary Chemitei and Louis Onguto have ruled that some of the provisions of the Security laws (amendment) 2014 violated freedom of expression and the media, right to privacy, right of an arrested person to fair trial, entitlement to citizenship and registration of persons and the right to freedom of movement and those of refugees in Kenya. These is victory for every Kenyan and all of us have a reason to celebrate. we appreciate the effort made by Coalition for Reform and Democracy (CORD) & Kenya National Commission on Human Rights in ensuring that the rights of each and every human being regardless of who you are are protected.I must say if it were not for these petitioners these laws would be a yoke on every Kenyan neck.Freedom is sweet and that why we belong in a society to ensure we are free and secure. In the words of Justice Odunga I conclude by saying, 'Justice is not a cloistered virtue. Where justice is done and public interest upheld, it is acknowledged by the public at large, the sons and daughters of the land dance and sing, and the angels of heaven sing and dance and Heaven and Earth embrace.
