The War against Media and freedom of expression is not a war between
NTV, KTN and Citizen but it is a war against each human. In a democratic
society the most fundamental principle that goes hand in hand with
Democracy is Freedom of expression.Freedom of Expression is what gives
democracy life. Even voting its self is an expression of your opinion on
a particular candidate.
The moment the freedom of expression is denied then democracy dies.
Just a recent example if the media had
not aired the land grabbers of the Langata Road Primary school and the
after-match would the public be aware of the illegal act?
As
individuals we may sit down and say we have no relation with the media
and we have no obligation to speak out for them but the truth is you
will be next. I will End with the words of Martin Niemöller* (1892–1984)
who said:
First they came for the Communists,
and I didn’t speak up,
because I wasn’t a Communist.
Then they came for the Trade Unionists,
and I did not speak out
Because I was not a Trade Unionist.
Then they came for the Jews,
and I didn’t speak up,
because I wasn’t a Jew.
Then they came for the Catholics,
and I didn’t speak up,
because I was a Protestant.
Then they came for me,
and by that time there was no one
left to speak up for me
